Vets

Still feel like Playing Rugby Veterans Rugby - 35+
A famous old rugby player used to say that only two things in life that were certain: the referee and death.
As age takes it toll on the bodies of even the most harden rugby player the passion and desire to play still lives on.
Vets/Veterans Rugby and Golden Oldies is the modified version of the game that provides the excuse to go out, get some fresh air and enjoy a quiet pint or two after a game of rugby.
Primarily the Vets/Veterans game is enjoyed by players who should be older than 35 years of age and the Goldie Oldies should be older than 50 years of age (chronological speaking, mental development rarely prevents participation).
The game is played as the normal 15 a side game with a few changes to suit the elderly.  Unlimited Substitution, Shorter Playing Times, over vigorous Play is discouraged and at all times, the emphasis is on:

"Fun, Friendship, Fraternity and Family!04

Veterans/Golden Oldies Rugby can:

  • Sustain/retain participants
  • Encourage ''lapsed'' players to make a come-back
  • Recruit new participants
  • Help provide the network from which future administrators and volunteers of all kinds can be recruited.

Golden Oldies Rugby is now played all, over the World, and in every corner of Europe and tries to adhere to the following: Youth & Talent Are No Match For AGE & TREACHERY

Golden Oldies Nine Commandments!
1 I will play the Game of Rugby for the Game''s sake.
2 I will not remember the score at the end of the Game.
3 If I " made it " during my Playing days, I will not use that to embarrass others.
4 If I didn''t "make it" during my Playing days, I will not use the Golden Oldies to do so.
5 I will at all times during the Game, respect the older and more decrepit Members of the other Team.
6 I will follow the Golden Oldies philosophy of Fun, Irreverence and self - indulgence.
7 I will be an Ambassador for Golden Oldies and spread the good word.
8 I will never loose sight of the Rule to make friends and renew acquaintances in exotic places.
9 I will always remember that I am at far greater risk at what I may do to myself, or have done to me socially, than anything that may happen to me on the Field!
