What is Tag?
Tag Rugby is a non-contact variation of the game that concentrates on handling and running skills. It is played by up to 7 players per side.
The players wear a belt with two ribbons or ‘tags’ attached by Velcro. A ‘tackle’ consists of a defender pulling one these tags off the player with the ball forcing him to pass the ball.
It is a very good introduction to the proper game and encourages players to run into gaps in the defence (rather than at defenders with the ball tucked under their arm!). It also introduces general discipline, teamwork and such concepts as defensive organisation and offside.
