Swanage & Wareham II 0 v Weymouth 32
WEYMOUTH opened their league campaign with an emphatic win at their title rivals and near neighbours. The Seasider's new captain Mark Sample was impressed by his charges 'we lost 29-0 here last year which probably cost us the league, so to turn that around just shows what a good performance it was'.
After a tense opening half hour the only score Weymouth had to show for all their possession was a Tim Peplow penalty. Then wing Will Quick latched on to a poor pass, beat three defenders and ran in from half way. Peplow completed the scoring for the half with another penalty.
Weymouth again started to dominate the second half but this time made inroads into the Swans defence. Will Quick again showed his opposite number a clean pair of heals getting on the end of a sweeping backs move to score in the corner, which was converted by Peplow. Ten minutes later, Quick completed his hat-trick with a carbon copy of his previous try scoring in the corner, again converted by Peplow. Weymouth were now starting to play with a freedom and put together some fantastic passages of play culminating with veteran Dave Allan rounding his opposite wing to score in the corner, scoring for the twentieth year in succession. Peplow completed the scoring with another fine conversion. Sample added 'it was a great day for Weymouth RFC, we put out three sides on the same day, the first time that has happened since I was a colt and the second XV, ably led by Nathen Allan, won 62-5. Credit must go not only to the players but the quality of coaches we have assembled at the club. I think this could be the start of something special.
