On a glorious early summer Sunday 15 teams took part in the annual RFU beach tag rugby festival, Teams from North Dorset, Bridport & Dorchester added to the local teams from Weymouth. As usual for a festival like this the teams adopted new names and there where some good ones as follows:- Tom`s Tornados, AllSorts, Crusaders, Bridges Beach Boys, Seaside Battalion, Barrans Demons, Smurfs, Bridport Beach Bums, YoY (why oh why), Odd Shaped balls, Rugrats, Smash and Dash, Pink Panthers, Sherborne Pinks and the Fantastic Six.
In the first round of Pool games, there where some terrific high octane games of rugby played including Seaside Battalion (Weymouth U15`s) beatings Tom`s Tornados (Weymouth) 8 tries to 3 and Allsorts (Dorchester under 7`s) narrow defeat to Seaside Battalion 7 tries to 5. Another fantastic game to watch for the end to end rugby was the YoY (Why oh Why, Dorchester) against Odd Shaped Balls (Dorchester) which was narrowly won by the Odd Shaped Balls team 5 tries to 4. A Great Kids match was the game between Pink Panthers (Weymouth) against the Rugrats (Dorchester) which ended 7 - 6 to the Pink Panthers.
First round pool winners were:
Pool 1 Seaside Battalion
Pool 2 YoY (why oh why) joint first with Odd Shaped Balls
Pool 3 Smash & Dash.
Well Done
The Second round of games pitted all of the teams that came first together, second together etc so that all teams would be evenly matched. From these games there where some fantastic games of Rugby and Winners of Pool 1 by 1 point where Smash and Dash (Dorchester) from Seaside Battalion (Weymouth U15`s). Pool 2 was won by Tom's Tornados (Weymouth), Pool 3 one by Bridges Beach Boys (North Dorset), Pool 4 by the Crusaders (Weymouth U13`s) and Pool 5 by Smurfs (Dorchester). well done to everybody

If anybody would like to join in beach rugby, Weymouth RFC will be running free sessions on a Wednesday Night from 1830 till 2000 on the beach opposite Alexandra gardens. There will also be another RFU event on the 1st Of August in Weymouth.
