Press Release - 17 August 2007
Weymouth rugby club have resumed their pre season training at their Monmouth Avenue ground in anticipation another successful year.
Head coach Barry Ross Mackenzie said: "We finished last season on a high narrowly missing out on promotion with a team based on spirited youngsters blended with experienced players in key positions on the park and I see no reason to change that successful formula".
"In fact some of the lads have trained throughout the summer with me and youth team coach, Des Quick".
"Our first competitive game is in the preliminary round of the RFU EDF Senior Vase away at Chard on Saturday the first of September so we want to be up for that one, but this Saturday the 25th we have a trial game at home against Andover, all players meet at the clubhouse 200pm sharp and any newcomers will be made welcome".
"We have already had some success off the park as first team skipper Tony Worle and player Craig Gelderd won the car pulling contest on Carnival day so let us hope that is a good omen for the new season".
The colts train at Monmouth Avenue on Tuesday evenings with the seniors on Wednesday and Thursday evenings beginning at 6.00pm.
The club are staging an open day on Sunday the ninth of September when the officers members will be presented with the RFU Seal of Approval by a RFU appointed dignitary and that ceremony will be combined with an open to all tag rugby festival and a bid screen in the clubroom to watch a Rugby World Cup match live.
